Target Audiences and Locations"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Over the years, we have gotten many requests from customers asking for clarity around how best to use Adobe Target Audiences and Locations when setting up Activities via the Visual Experience Composer (VEC) or Form-based creation. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This video will share best practices and explain how best to leverage the functionality. none;\"><\/p>\n<p>we put together this quick video to<br \/>\nhopefully help<br \/>\nsome confusion out there and to share<br \/>\nsome best practices and in ways to can<br \/>\nthink about test locations and audiences<br \/>\nand how they play out when setting up a<br \/>\ntest and adobe target whether using a<br \/>\nvisual editor<br \/>\nor a form-based activity<br \/>\nso let me jump in here and show you uh<br \/>\nwhat&#8217;s going on here so i&#8217;m creating an<br \/>\nactivity i&#8217;m going to use the visual<br \/>\neditor so here you supply the url this<br \/>\nis the location this is where you want<br \/>\nthe test to execute we&#8217;re not thinking<br \/>\nabout<br \/>\nusing the target profile or anything<br \/>\nlike that like you know for repeat<br \/>\ncustomers or people coming from google<br \/>\nor anything like that this is where the<br \/>\ntest is running the location so i&#8217;m<br \/>\ngoing to enter in the url there<br \/>\nso the visual editor is loading and<br \/>\ndoing its thing<br \/>\nso i&#8217;m clicking on the gear here and<br \/>\nthen i&#8217;m going to apply page delivery<br \/>\nlet&#8217;s say we want to expand on that<br \/>\nlocation<br \/>\nto apply to run on the mia provo blog<br \/>\nso i&#8217;ve got lots of options here to<br \/>\nexpand on this location and and this is<br \/>\nthe first part of the confusion uh<br \/>\nbetween<br \/>\nlocations and audiences that we get<br \/>\nquestions on<br \/>\nso<br \/>\nwe&#8217;re limited here in terms of a list<br \/>\nthere&#8217;s nothing to do with<br \/>\npeople from texas or geographic data<br \/>\nit&#8217;s limited to location based which it<br \/>\nshould it makes sense to do that let&#8217;s<br \/>\nsay<br \/>\ni wanted to update this to go on the<br \/>\nblog i can do<br \/>\nor url<br \/>\ncontains<br \/>\nwww.miaprobot.com<br \/>\nblog cool so now whatever i do in the<br \/>\nvisual composer will be applied here<br \/>\nuh on our homepage as well as here i can<br \/>\nalso make sure i can use path i could do<br \/>\nyou know things<br \/>\nthat make sense for locations where<br \/>\nspecifically<br \/>\nis the test running so i&#8217;ll just save<br \/>\nthis update here<br \/>\nso within this section it&#8217;s best to<br \/>\nthink of it at this experience stage is<br \/>\nnot so much who&#8217;s going to become a<br \/>\nmember of test but rather where the test<br \/>\nis running<br \/>\nyou&#8217;ll notice there&#8217;s a component here<br \/>\nfor audiences<br \/>\ni&#8217;m going to come back to this i think<br \/>\nthis would be better served under the<br \/>\ntargeting but i&#8217;m going to come back to<br \/>\nthis in just a second here let me go<br \/>\nback into another window here and<br \/>\ni&#8217;m going to go ahead and create a form<br \/>\nbased activity so create an a b test<br \/>\ncome here i&#8217;m going to select form uh<br \/>\nproperties uh is a whole other component<br \/>\nit is very it&#8217;s part of locations again<br \/>\nthis whole first step whether this<br \/>\nvisual editor where you put a url is<br \/>\nlocation<br \/>\nform is also location because properties<br \/>\nare defined uh you know based off of<br \/>\nwhere the organization uh defines the<br \/>\nproperties and they&#8217;re based off of urls<br \/>\nor where the unbox calls are coming from<br \/>\nso now you&#8217;ll notice here in the form<br \/>\ntarget global emma so choose my inbox<br \/>\nnow if you notice like in the visual<br \/>\neditor i supplied a url i told adobe<br \/>\ntarget this is where the test is running<br \/>\nbut if i apply code in here i go ahead<br \/>\nand i create an offer and or pick an<br \/>\noffer<br \/>\nit&#8217;s a global inbox so it&#8217;s gonna that<br \/>\noffer is gonna fire and adobe rightly so<br \/>\ni was like whoa you should you should<br \/>\nrefine and limit the scope<br \/>\nuh specifically limit where the code the<br \/>\noffer is going to fire the visual editor<br \/>\nabsorbs this information automatically<br \/>\nand so<br \/>\nthe test by default will only fire uh in<br \/>\nsupply code based off of the url but the<br \/>\nrefinements here<br \/>\nare audience refinements so in the<br \/>\nvisual editor if you notice it&#8217;s it&#8217;s<br \/>\nbased off of you get<br \/>\nuh<br \/>\nyou get url per you know path domain<br \/>\nthat sort of thing so here you could go<br \/>\nahead and create an audience based off<br \/>\nof anything<br \/>\nbrowser operating system geo targeting<br \/>\nstuff that speaks to the the audience<br \/>\nthat the the visitors that you want in<br \/>\num yes there&#8217;s overlap i could go in<br \/>\nhere and i could do site page uh current<br \/>\npage<br \/>\nurl<br \/>\ndue to do<br \/>\ncontains<br \/>\nyou know forward slash block cool okay<br \/>\nso<br \/>\nyou&#8217;re able to accomplish that but<br \/>\nbecause you&#8217;re being exposed to<br \/>\nvisitor stuff right um it&#8217;s creating<br \/>\nsome some confusion so<br \/>\neven though you can create all of these<br \/>\nother different things based off of<br \/>\nthese attributes<br \/>\nat this particular state please uh<br \/>\nconsider you know think of this as the<br \/>\nscope of where you want the test to run<br \/>\nwhen it comes to audience members leave<br \/>\nthat through here you can create<br \/>\naudiences you can use all the rich data<br \/>\nyou&#8217;d like you can combine multiple<br \/>\naudiences<br \/>\nthis is something very cool uh you&#8217;re<br \/>\nnot able to do it in the audience<br \/>\nsection although there&#8217;s a pretty big<br \/>\nupdate coming there which might enable<br \/>\nthis um<br \/>\nbut you think about it this day in the<br \/>\ntargeting who<br \/>\nnot where who experiences is is is the<br \/>\nwhere and and the same thing goes for<br \/>\nthe visual editor use the<br \/>\nthink of this as who&#8217;s going to become<br \/>\nmembers of this test<br \/>\nuh so<br \/>\nthat makes sense so uh<br \/>\nhere on the experience tab i said i&#8217;d<br \/>\ncome back to this i&#8217;ll do this for both<br \/>\nso on the left here this is form base<br \/>\nokay<br \/>\nso you&#8217;ll notice here in the form base<br \/>\naudiences single and multiple<br \/>\nokay which i think is i think this needs<br \/>\nto be moved over to here as well but<br \/>\nthey&#8217;re actually it makes sense for here<br \/>\nbut let&#8217;s say i select multiple<br \/>\naudiences here<br \/>\nso i&#8217;ve got this odd i&#8217;m now<br \/>\nwithin i&#8217;m going to add an experience b<br \/>\nexperience c<br \/>\ni&#8217;ll add in uh an audience let me just<br \/>\ncreate one here i&#8217;m going to say<br \/>\nchicago<br \/>\nadd<br \/>\nrule geo<br \/>\ni&#8217;m not a big fan you know yeah i could<br \/>\nselect city but<br \/>\nto me<br \/>\ncompanies are better to use dma you&#8217;re<br \/>\ngoing to get a wider a wider net in<br \/>\nterms of audiences so i&#8217;m a big fan of<br \/>\ndma but you can use city there<br \/>\nso wait for this to show up here in just<br \/>\na second i&#8217;m just a shortcut<br \/>\nwhenever i create an audience i like to<br \/>\njust create copies of all the ones i&#8217;m<br \/>\ngoing to use for the test<br \/>\nto do so dma i&#8217;m going to do this i&#8217;m<br \/>\ngoing to change this to san francisco<br \/>\nokay so yeah this is a much wider net<br \/>\nsan francisco oakland san jose okay so<br \/>\ni&#8217;ll enter this to the dma<br \/>\nsave okay cool so first test i want to<br \/>\nselect<br \/>\nchicago so there&#8217;s my audience for<br \/>\nchicago i&#8217;m actually going to get delete<br \/>\nthis i&#8217;ll stick with just an a and b so<br \/>\nchicago<br \/>\ni&#8217;m going to add in san francisco so<br \/>\nwhat this enables you to do<br \/>\nwe still have the location specific i&#8217;m<br \/>\nactually going to update this because<br \/>\nbecause we need to do this so i&#8217;m going<br \/>\nto do<br \/>\nhome page hopefully i have that in there<br \/>\nhome<br \/>\nnope i don&#8217;t let me get out of there so<br \/>\nlet me create the homepage big fan of<br \/>\nhomepage is path<br \/>\nequals<br \/>\nthat uh that allows it doesn&#8217;t create an<br \/>\nequal you don&#8217;t have to worry about<br \/>\nissues with contains uh or you know<br \/>\nlots lots of companies have had issues<br \/>\nnot doing this this is an awesome uh<br \/>\napproach so i&#8217;m gonna do a current page<br \/>\npath<br \/>\nto do uh not contains we&#8217;re gonna use<br \/>\nequals here equals this so someone comes<br \/>\nin from paid search or something where<br \/>\nthere&#8217;s utm or tracking parameters<br \/>\nyou&#8217;ll still be members of this test<br \/>\nthis limits the scope uh but this does<br \/>\nnot uh if you&#8217;ve got lower environments<br \/>\nwith different subdomains you&#8217;d want to<br \/>\nupdate that information<br \/>\nso here again<br \/>\nlocation<br \/>\nhere is<br \/>\naudiences so basically if you get<br \/>\nexperience a you can have an offer for<br \/>\nchicago and an offer for san francisco<br \/>\nfor down here and i&#8217;ll and i&#8217;ll show you<br \/>\nan example of that<br \/>\nsame thing applies within here so again<br \/>\nthink of this section as<br \/>\nlocation where the test is running but<br \/>\nyou do have the ability to add multiple<br \/>\naudiences with it within here same thing<br \/>\nas i did here so i&#8217;m going to change the<br \/>\naudience<br \/>\ni&#8217;m going to choose chicago done<br \/>\nand then i&#8217;ll add in san francisco<br \/>\nand here&#8217;s an example of how this comes<br \/>\ntogether<br \/>\nlet&#8217;s say you&#8217;re united airlines i&#8217;m a<br \/>\nbig united fan here um approaching a<br \/>\nmillion miler hopefully in the next year<br \/>\nor two<br \/>\num but let&#8217;s say united wanted to run an<br \/>\na b test where the control was the same<br \/>\nbut let&#8217;s say they wanted to<br \/>\nhighlight a new route for<br \/>\nuh people from from chicago here i i<br \/>\ntyped this up so<br \/>\nmultiple audience examples united wants<br \/>\nto run a test to visitors in chicago and<br \/>\nsan francisco promoting new routes sfo<br \/>\nto ogg ogg is maui in hawaii and ord is<br \/>\no&#8217;hare in chicago and ogg so<br \/>\nhow the multiple audiences works is we<br \/>\nin the uh experiences we define the<br \/>\nlocation<br \/>\nbut then we can also add in different<br \/>\naudiences like this and so the test<br \/>\nwould look like this chicago you can<br \/>\nhave a chicago imagery with text<br \/>\npromoting oh uh ord ogg<br \/>\nuh in san francisco the same thing so<br \/>\nthat that&#8217;s kind of where that comes<br \/>\ntogether within adobe uh target within<br \/>\nhere so hopefully that makes sense uh<br \/>\nlike i said it was a big customer today<br \/>\nset up some tests and had it was a<br \/>\nlittle screwed up so i had enough<br \/>\nthought i&#8217;d make a quick video uh if you<br \/>\nlike this and like others or got
